Happy New Moon!
Tomorrow (Friday, January 24) we have a new moon at 1:42 pm California time.
New moons are a great time to start new things and get clear on what we want in the current lunar cycle.
This is the first new moon of 2020, the first new moon of the decade, and the Chinese New Year!
Paying attention to the lunar cycles helps me feel connected to our natural world.
I like to spend a little quiet time on the new moon connecting with the energy of new beginnings. I light a candle and write my wishes for this lunar cycle for myself and for the world.
Some people like to write intentions rather than wishes, with the idea of making firm commitments.
What are your wishes/intentions for the next 28 days? And, if you want to think longer term, for 2020 and for this decade?
What are your personal dreams? If you could create anything in your life, what would it be?
What are your dreams for our beautiful earth? If you could change anything in our world, what would it be?
Write your wishes/intentions in the present tense. So, instead of saying, “I will get a great job I love,” you could write, “I now have a wonderful job I love. It has these characteristics…”
Writing our wishes/intentions helps focus our attention on what we most want.
Our brains are always listening to our thoughts. If we’re constantly thinking about what we don’t want, that is where our attention will stay.
If we focus on what we DO want, that tells our brains what we want to work towards and opens up our creativity.
After I’ve written my wishes, I put them away and don’t usually look at them again until the next new moon.
Some people like to review their wishes/intentions often during the month and will even put them up somewhere they’ll see them every day, such as on the bathroom mirror or the refrigerator.
If you feel drawn to working with the lunar cycles, try different approaches and see what feels best to you. Bring a spirit of exploration and play.
Do you currently do something that connects you to the lunar cycles, or feel drawn to start? I’d love to hear about it!
