Feeling Overwhelmed?

I’ve been hearing from a lot of heart centered women who are feeling overwhelmed right now.

It makes sense, given the challenging times we’re living through.

Everyone is feeling some level of stress.

And if you’re a heart centered woman with high empathy, you’re likely feeling not just your own emotions, but also those of everyone around you and in the larger society.

When we’re feeling overwhelmed, it can be hard to think clearly, to be motivated, to do the things that move our lives forward.

When we’re feeling overwhelmed, going back to basics can help, such as:

  1. Focus on your breathing. Our breath is always with us, and the simple act of watching our breath moving in and out can help us be more grounded.

  2. Boundaries with media. Find ways to stay informed, but not increase your overwhelm. I love Twitter, but I’m needing to take a break during this time. Use caution with adrenaline-producing entertainment such as scary movies.

  3. Spend time in nature. Step outside for a moment and feel the sun on your face, soak it in.

  4. Watch your thoughts. Does your brain get stuck in negative, repetitive loops? Do a thought download – write down everything you’re thinking about, worrying about. Get it all out of your head and down on paper. Choose helpful thoughts.

  5. Connect with positive people. Find ways to stay connected with the people who lift you up.

  6. Connect to your higher purpose. What is most important to you? How can you stay connected to your purpose during this time?

  7. Give yourself grace. Recognize that these are challenging times and many people are struggling. Be kind and patient with yourself.
